Buy Japanese!

How do you fight obesity, food import dependence, global warming and food price inflation, while eating great Japanese food? Live in Japan!

Here's a public service announcement from the world's largest importer of food which ends with a "why can't consumers, producers and the food industry all get along - after all we're all Japanese?" message which ignores the reason we're in this mess at the moment. But the video nonetheless pushes the question - what's your ministry of agriculture doing to join the dots between hunger, obesity and the globalisation of food? [Via DD]

People with depression experience extreme emotions, such as sadness, which are higher in intensity and longer duration than normal. Depression runs in your energy and hope, making it difficult to do what you need to feel better.

I have always used Japanese recipes when cooking, especially vegetarian or vegan recipes, and give recipes at my doctor ratings blog too.

The best obesity help is to eat well and eat modest portions. Japaneese food can be a solution.

Fantastic Video! I will use that for my lectures to show the impact of globalization and to illustrate the nutrition transition in Japan! Thanks

Problem of obesity is very sharp today.
The surefire way to lose weight is not by following a high protein, low carb diet or a juice diet or whatever else is the fad these days. The best obesity help is to eat well and eat modest portions. Japaneese food can be a solution.

Is it any wonder that the Japanese live in a constant state of fear? Any island nation is bound to be at the mercy of outside forces when its agricultural resources are so limited. The "normal" Nipponese diet used to consist largely of fish and rice. Can you imagine eating nothing but fish and rice day in and day out? No wonder they are so actively partaking of McDonald's, etc.

just thought the second half of your comment sounded like eating fish and rice is a bad thing... There's no question that Japan is a seafood nation, but they've always had game as well, especially inland.

Hi Raj,

I often read your blog and it continues to stoke my interest. Please keep it up!

Although I doubt that this video will help very many Japanese individuals overcome the "programming" foisted on them by the global agribusiness interests, it is nice to see an example of a government agency actually making rational statements about real issues in a public statement.

Living in the USA can lead one to forget that governments are, in principle, actually capable of attempting to fulfill their mission of serving the people.

Sorry I am missing your talk tonight, Raj. (You are speaking at my church as I type this, but I am being lazy^H^H^H^H saving the world from global warming by not driving over to listen to you.) Mea culpa. But I am reading your blogs and am hoping to make a habit of thinking more carefully about my food-mediated interactions with the rest of the world....
